What work do you do that doesn't seem like work?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for April 28, 2009:

what is "work"?  if we are taking "work" to be somehow something we "have to do" that doesn't bring us joy, pleasure or good feelings . . . then, this is how i see it:

there is life and there are chores.  if you are in conscious direction of your life, and you choose your actions, even chores are rewarding, and value and support the life you choose.  i for one am choosing to lead a complete life that doesn't suck, so nothing i do should seem like work (as described above).

. . . that's not to say chores in the form of housework are not evil and shouldn't be stopped, after all, if an activist can't protest something, they are not truly happy, right?!!

peace & harmony,
elaine

tee hee, a lil giggle & very true. I'm not exactly a Hausfrau inc. with those kind of chores high on my fun to do list & sometimes I have to manipulate myselff a lil to get in the mood for doing the dishes fx. Dressing up in funny clothes & playing loud music helps & as you say, looking at the chores as a part of the whole picture, it is immensely rewarding to sit down afterwards & enjoy a job well done. On the other hand, banning housework would be quite a thrill too ;-)

barry manilow blasting and a pair of fuzzy thong high heels and one of my husband's favorite shirts always helps the mood, especially when working with the faux feather duster!
